Now if you follow soccer news you'll know that Salaries in the PSL have increased  drastically over the past years. Well it's a very uneven scale with players in big teams making big bucks while the small teams pay very little.

In 2007 the minimum wage for NFD was R8000 while PSL sat on R15000. That has changed though, most PSL players are sitting on a minimum of R20 000. The Patrice Motsepe funded team Sundowns are the pace setters with Elias Pelembe earning a recently increased sum of R480 000 per month, followed by Teko Modise with R350 000 and Katlego Mphela with R250 000.

Wits boss Roger de Sa confirmed that his squad is on a Benchmark of R6000 a month. He was quoted saying "Clubs have different budgets, crowds, sponsors and high salaries are impossible for certain clubs. None of these players are forced to sign these contracts."

Some clubs in the NFD have been known to field young ambitious soccer players for between R2000 and R2500. Its good that players are getting paid better, but the issue is having such a huge gap between the earning. Playing against someone who gets more than R100 000 while you're getting R6000 must be a confidence breaker. Sifiso Myeni's signing to pirates must've been life changing for him. Going from earning R6000 to getting R150 000 with a signing fee of R1million at his age. Now wonder player from overseas are coming back to play on home soil. PSL salaries are almost matching those of the Portugal league.
